Optical media such as CDs and DVDs provide fast and efficient data back-up and file sharing between offices and employees. However, what do you do with the disc when it’s no longer needed?

Scratching the CD or DVD face is inadequate because if the surface is sanded down, the data layers of the disc are still recoverable. There are three basic methods of secure CD and DVD disposal: the data-bearing layers of the CD or DVD can be sanded off; the data-bearing layers of the CD or DVD can be pitted with a spiked roller; or the disc itself can be physically destroyed, cut into chunks or ground into powder.
