Computer Tape Certifiers
Are you experiencing problems with your computer tape and want to quantify exactly what those problems are and what percentage of your tape library is affected? Computer tape certifiers read all of the information from end to end on the tape cartridge and then log and report the number of retries and specific kinds of tape problems. The resulting error report from the computer tape checker enables the user to identify which tapes are causing the problems.
Problem tapes with read failure should be discarded and replaced with new, high quality tape. However, if a previously-recorded tape has no problems, that tape can be safely re-recorded and/or erased and sold as used to a recycler.
Newer versions of tape storage, such as DLT, SDLT, and LTO tape cartridges, require regular inspection and maintenance as they age and as the tape degrades. Users should test and certify LTO tape from time to time with an LTO certifier or cartridge verification system to identify the specific cartridges that cause computer abends (read failure).
Our line of certifiers permits you to test all of your tape to determine the exact number of drop-outs on each tape, thus enabling you to keep cartridges that perform to specification or discard faulty tape and replace it with new tape. All of your DLT, SDLT, and LTO tape can now be inspected and retensioned for improved performance. |
